At the recent 2018 Mercedes-Benz SEA II Skills Competition, Customer Services professionals from around Malaysia and the region brought their best to claim victory as the best technician, service advisor and process specialist within the Mercedes-Benz network.
This year’s event represents the 10th anniversary of the competition which was started in 2008 and held every two years, and represents the first time that the Skills Competition has been opened up to other member countries in the region. From 133 participants in 2008, this number has grown significantly to 631 this year.
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz SEA II Skills Competition witnessed a total of 25 Service Professionals compete against each other across five categories representing their respective fields of expertise, namely, Qualified Maintenance Technician (QMT), Qualified System Technician (QST), Certified Diagnostic Technician (CDT), Certified Service Advisor (CSA), and Qualified Parts Process Specialist (QPPS).
Providing equal opportunity for this year’s newly graduated apprentices, the skills competition also saw the Mercedes-Benz network’s newest recruits showcase their capabilities in the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship category.
The participating dealerships represented in the finals were from service centres across Peninsula Malaysia including the Klang Valley, Kuala Terenganu, Georgetown, Seremban, and Johor Bahru, as well as Singapore. Outstanding finalists were rewarded with a trophy, certificate and cash prizes totalling over RM100,000.
In a bid to form well-rounded service professionals, the skills competition put in place a host of challenges in the form of theory and practical tests as well as a quiz. Finalists battled to remain calm despite being put under pressure at each stage of the competition. Responses were closely monitored and evaluated by a qualified judging panel comprising experts and management of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.
Held every two years, the skills competition is a landmark event for Customer Services professionals within the Mercedes-Benz dealer network. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has the largest premium network coverage in Malaysia with a total of 34 Autohauses and 31 Service Centres. This year’s competing dealer partners who qualified and competed in the finals included Cycle & Carriage Bintang, Hap Seng Star, NZ Wheels, Mofaz Exotic Car, MBSA Automotive and Minsoon Credit, from Malaysia as well as Cycle & Carriage Industries from Singapore.
